The Bright side

hopefully there are some local folks(wmass) hired for this work also.....

The Bright side

The only people I have met from the Bridge construction were at the Voo. It was two
men from Ohio, that have moved to Turners.

But it's nice to see a town that takes pride in itself. Fire hydrants. Doing tree work BEFORE a storm hits. Greenfield has left me leery of politics....

Now, if we could just get everyone recycling.......

The Bright side

Millers Falls. I've been pondering organizing a pub crawl of sorts over thar. Perhaps tour Element Brewing, Millers Pub, over to Roadhouse for horseshoes and music? Some Fri or Sun afternoon?

The Bright side

junkman With all the construction going on in the county it shows people are working. Making money and keeping businesses afloat. Its also a good excuse to stay home and get things done around the house.

More traffic has been flowing through Millers Falls which may be a blessing as my business is doing just fine. I'm sure a few others in town are experiencing the same.... Of course there are a few knit whits who do not take heed to the posted speed limit but then again there are always a few.

Its a long shot but maybe Millers Falls will come back to life....

Cheapside Bridge

originally the plan was to COMPLETE the General Pierce work BEFORE shutting down the Gill-Montague bridge.... GRRR...they really want to keep folks from getting to Montague/TF eh?

JTHK Mik,

Nice website by the way; simple, to-the-point, clear. Sucks about the bridges.

Cheapside Bridge

I wrote a facebook message to Bill Martin back in May, stating the road needed repaving at the Stop n Shop intersection and that the Cheapside bridge needed major resurfacing.... I wonder why he never responded to it, or my friend request...... XD

There are potholes at the flex points big enough to keep all the local repair shops happy....

mik I've created a new website to keep up with the latest state of the bridges in Montague. Still working on it, and feedback is welcome.

Cheapside Bridge

mik They are jack-hammering two new holes in the south-bound lane. We're back to alternate one-way for who knows how long.

Bridge Update

Ugh. That will make getting to and from the Grange fundraiser at the Gill Tavern (Trivia Night, 8:30pm Wednesday) a bit of a hassle. I imagine that the bars and restaurants in Turners are none too happy about this, either.

Bridge Update

mik I just heard that the Gill Montague Bridge will be closed BOTH WAYS all this week between 9:00 pm and 5:00 am.

bridge is CLOSED

JTHK Argh, just gave directions 3 hours ago to a friend who's coming to visit from the north. But if in-bound is allowed, then that shouldn't affect the directions.

Thanks, Mik, for the note.

bridge is CLOSED

mik The bridge is now closed to out-bound traffic. In-bound only.

Store front businesses in Turners are holding their breath to see how this effects their businesses.

bridge

The Gill/Montague Bridge is about to go one way any moment now. While leaving town hall a Montague police officer told me they were about to close the bridge.

Turners Falls/Gill Bridge Boycott

I'm just a little curious if anyone knows any workers on the T.F. bridge project? Are any of these guys local or all imported from out of the area?

Posted by Quickchange - Fri, Jul 16, 2010, 10:48 A

Turners Falls/Gill Bridge Boycott

This is my own personal boycott but I decided to let people know what I was doing in the hope that the idea of safety would catch on and people would either stop using the bridge or at least cross it more mindfully. Riding over the bridge literally rattled my nerves because I have sensory issues (hyperacusis) so I was a prime candidate for questioning the overall safety. Also, my daughters live in the area of Minneapolis where the bridge collapsed. Plus I'm 52-years-old and tend to think about mortality more than I used to. I'm just now figuring out how to enjoy life and now want to prolong it any way I can including not taking foolish chances with it by setting foot or wheel on the Turners/Gill Bridge. Not using the bridge is a real hardship for me, because there are even fewer buses I can take to Greenfield now that I don't use the Athol/Greenfield bus. (Getting to Greenfield by bus is tough enough for riders who are not boycotting.) But since starting my boycott, I have felt better about myself from having affirmed the value of my life, so the benefit is well worth the sacrifice.

Turners Falls/Gill Bridge Boycott

Here's what I think! My life is valuable, and if the bridge collapses, I don't want to be on it! Please join me in boycotting the Turners Falls/Gill Bridge!
