" 4/19 was the fifteenth anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City_bombing), which at the time was "was the most destructive act of terrorism on American soil", AND it remains the most destructive one carried out BY AN AMERICAN CITIZEN".
And look at where Timothy McVeigh is right now... Bin Laden and his cronies should be strung up somewhere in a hot desert. I won't post what they should be strung up by. Of course the maority here will look at the Oklahoma City bombing as more of a barbaric act than 911. And who says I am stuck on this issue. All I did was state a point.

911
"I'm sure if the big 'A' was dropped on the areas of these terrorist cells there would be an end to all the BS following 911."
Seriously? I think that if we dropped "the big 'A'" we'd convince a sizable portion of the world's population that we are seriously screwed-up ****-heads who need to be stopped at all costs. And since China has all our money and Saudi Arabia sells us all our oil, that wouldn't be too hard for them to do, now would it? Not that we care -- we, um ... oh, yeah -- we like our beer! :-)
I'm having a little trouble understanding all the fuss about 9/11. 4/19 was the fifteenth anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City_bombing), which at the time was "was the most destructive act of terrorism on American soil", AND it remains the most destructive one carried out BY AN AMERICAN CITIZEN.
J-man, no offense, but I don't remember you or Mark2 remarking on that anniversary. I don't recall your warning the rest of us to keep an eye on the militia movement, or suggesting that anyone suspected of being a part of it should be rounded up "just in case".
But somehow, 9/11 is different for you guys -- like dogs with a bone, you won't let it go. How come?
Compare 911 to Pearl Harbor. Both are acts of war on American soil no matter what anyone thinks. The Japanese bit off way more than they could chew and so did the terrorist groups who downed The World Trade Centers.
I'm sure if the big "A" was dropped on the areas of these terrorist cells there would be an end to all the BS following 911. Look at Hiroshima, Negasaki. Both instantly turned into ashtrays. The white flags went up and dog patrol was called off. Whos to say all the aggression in the mideast won't lead up to a large pile of ash some day.
As usual, people are going overboard in both directions. Mark's excesses are nothing new, but saying things like "No one is a "HERO" just because they were killed at work" and " don't know the details, but this 9-11 shit has gone too far! I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT 9-11. Somehow it's a big psychological crutch for people unable to get out of bunker--mentality" is beyond ridiculous. Someone decides to work in a life-threatening profession and when they're killed in the line of duty they aren't heroes? Of course they're heroes. They went into that building to save people and died there. And I'm sure they were willing to save people who, like you, have no respect for what they do. That's pretty damn heroic in my book.
"
It's not spin, my friend. Spin is where someone takes a nothing event and turns it into a conspiracy or a dastardly thing." Oh that spin, I was talking about how people take an issue and turn it around and say " well your guy did the same thing where were you and your bitching when he did it" Yeah that was the spin I was talking about. Two different spins out there i guess.

I do wonder what the schools will do with the windfall of cash from the government? I am a little confused on this as it seems not long ago the schools may have been trying to propose getting more money in order to balance the budget.
I understand the School Comittee may be a little hesitant to answer as the DA has an active gag order in effect but any info on this matter would clear things up.
MIK, M2, and Garth. Put the Jimi Hendrix down. Stop talking about B,O like a dog.
For Memorial Day this year Obama went to Lincoln Memorial Cemetery instead of Arlington, and conservatives went bat-shit. Did they say a single word when just three years earlier Bush wen't golfing instead of doing ANYTHING on Memorial Day? No. Not a peep.
Do I care that Obama is going to be at a 9-11 event? No.
> Why is it every time I find something shitty about Obama, you just say 'Well Bush did the same"
Mark,
We've been over this a few dozen times...
"My friend's dad boinked the neighbor's wife last night! He's a scab!"
"Well, if I recall, your own dad did the very same thing the night before."
"Dude, why is it that when I bring up something about my friend's dad you always bring up the fact that my dad did the very same thing?!? Do two wrongs make a right?!?"
My point is, Mark, that EVERYTHING you can say about Obama, other than being black, can also be said about Bush. Except that Bush took twice as many vacation days as Obama and was a cocaine-addicted alcoholic during and after college.
You think you're going to find any sympathy or support here for your complaints, when the same exact thing happened only a few years earlier with your guy... and you said nothing??
Puhleeez!
Do you love America, Mark? If you did you'd be watching both sides equally, and not just dumping on Obama because he doesn't have a Texas accent.
Case closed.
(And now you're going to tell me that both parties are equally bad...)
Respect for the dead is one this, putting them above the living is another. I care as much about the folks murdered in 9-11 as I do about the folks gunned down in Texas, or the person beater to death by their partner, or the kids murdered by their parents. There is plenty of unpleasantness in the world.
No one is a "HERO" just because they were killed at work. How about the beverage distro people in CT? Yes, it sucks; yes, it's horrible, but they are not "heros" to be glorified. Why are only Firefighters and police "heros"? That's the career they chose!
If we continue to just place false glory on it (and especially if we don't LEARN from history), it's not respect it's just lying to ourselves.
As one of the websites that you moved, I extend a huge THANK YOU!! The new server has things zipping at close to the speed of light! Thanks for Montague Webworks' continued commitment to service improvements.
I look at it as showing respect to those who were killed, and their families. 3000 plus people were intentionally murdered on 9/11 and you don't care. That's cold to say the least. Maybe you thought what happened at Pearl Harbor was no big deal, maybe you think war memorials are a waste of money and time, why bother showing respect to the dead right.
It's about priorities, Mark. I choose to focus on real living people and real actions, not trumped up ceremonies.
I think Mik, makes those points because, in general, you didn't say a peep about anything when GW was in office. Much like the tea-baggers that pretend to be concerned about the "deficit" and $250million worth of education spending, but happily let Bush (and complacent/cowed Democrat Congressfolks) get us in to a bunch of wars that cost $3 TRILLION!!!
Finally great weather for the farmers market. There is eggs, beef, jack-o-lantern pumpkins, fresh veggies and fruit along with baked goods and a back massage. The market will be going until 6;00 pm.
Why is it every time I find something shitty about Obama, you just say 'Well Bush did the same". So two wrongs make a right??? I guess if Bush did something really stupid, or unethical,or immoral, it in turn would be fine for Obama to do the same. Now I understand where your coming from.
"I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT 9-11" Wow thats great, you seem like a fine American. Republican BS you say, well with that type of mentality its clear to see where you stand. I guess "worrying more about the dead, almost dead, or not even alive" is something you don't understand.
I don't know the details, but this 9-11 shit has gone too far! I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT 9-11. Somehow it's a big psychological crutch for people unable to get out of bunker--mentality. Sept 11th is also my best friend's birthday, I choose to celebrate that instead.
Typical republican BS, worrying more about the dead, almost dead, or not even alive vs. the actual real people walking around!
The guy is Paul Letourno (spelling). Was at my home in less than one hour. Unfortunatly the washer is doa.. Nice to deal with a real gentleman. So......... Thanx Paul..
I averaged 10 hours a day over the three day weekend moving 135 websites and 75 email domains to the new server, and then split the contents up between the two hard drives (from just one on the old).
Morning. Looking for a reliable/resonable person to see whats up with our washing machine.. Thought there was a one listed on the Local Business site. Thanx Stash
We used this chain link dog kennel for about 6 months, and it has been stored in a barn ever since. Easy to assemble. Can make a 5 x 15 foot or 10 x 10 foot kennel. Similar to this: http://www.petsmart....es+%26amp%3B+Kennels

Kudos to Junkman for challenging people to help make the Montague Plains a cleaner place.
Kudos also to the Mohawk Ramblers Motorcycle Club who have done an annual cleanup of the Montague Plains for many years (maybe a decade?) -- and more recently to Smith and Wesson Employees and Belchertown Boy scouts who will be back for their fourth year in 2010. Lots of other folks have made the event successful in past years -- MassWildlife, WMECO, Montague DPW, and groups of horseback riders, birders, hunters, mountain bikers...
These groups can use your energy, enthusiasm and helping hands on October 2nd to work on this ongoing project. And maybe, when the Cleanup is done for 2010 we can all get together at the 'Vous again to work on preventing dumping in the Plains going forward? I'd love to put us all out of work!
Drive this area daily---I was astounded to see it develop into a roundabout! If I were a gambler, I'd be betting that a year from now they'll be breaking it up and restoring a standard intersection. Is this, perhaps, an effort to keep people employed for the long term?
Come join Walker Korby at Brooks Bend Farm 10am-12pm on Sat 9/4
Chainsaw Safety and Beginner Woodlot Management
This is part of a local Montague Reskilling project, and is geared towards people who are new to the concept of selectively taking firewood from the forest and using it to heat their homes, as well as using a chainsaw in general.
On Sunday September 12 at 2:00 pm, Alice and Ted Armen have invited the Montague Backyard Gardeners to visit their mini farm and garden.
Alice and Ted were recently featured in a front page story in the Greenfield Recorder describing what they were able to do on one acre of land with goats, chickens, berries, fruits, and of course, vegetables. Their farmstead can only be described as truly astonishing and a must to be seen.
This is a rare opportunity to learn from two of the best gardeners on the planet. Don't miss out! See you there.
I would like to have a little get together on Friday 24 September 2010 at the Rondezvous From 3:00 pm til ? and come up with an organized game plan for this great event. Please show up if interested. Also no "Tire Kickers" need apply. Please do not commit if you cannot help. Lets meet get out and show the community we care.
I spoke with Beth Bazier today and the Plains clean up is, and has been set in stone for a few years. Gee its a small world. Sounds like one fun filled day. An organized event is planned for October 2 cleaning up the Plains. There will be staging areas for trash, recyclables, etc. If I am correct the Mohawk Ramblers along with other groups partake in this great effort. All and any help will be much appreciated. I am definately in and will be using my truck to help. If you need a ride I am sure this site is a great place to network in getting one.
Right now I am in the preliminary stage of getting more information out to Montague. Beth has left her contact info in a previous post. Please use it. I am going to be very persistent getting volunteers on this. Thanks for any support.
Perhaps hikers/hunters could use thier GPS technology to scope out the really bad spots in the next month. I'm thinking of an area that has skis.... and another with a huge picture frame thingie....
It's probably called a roundabout as opposed to a rotary. Rotaries are bigger, like the one at exit 26 in Greenfield. Roundabouts are -- according to some traffic engineers -- a much more efficient and effective tool to funnel traffic through intersections. Rotaries are less effective and more dangerous because a car can get going pretty fast around those loops and make it difficult for people to enter and exit the rotary.
Roundabouts are very, very common in Ireland (the only European country I've been to) and -- as far as I'm concerned (a former Boston driver) -- they're very effective at keeping traffic flowing and preventing long back-ups. Now, that said, I'd like to see what one looks like in major cities, such as Dublin or Belfast (or NYC).
Just drove through UMass and I saw the worlds smallest rotary being built on the north end of campus. I don't know how the fire trucks, buses and state snowplows will handle this little gem. Hard to believe some engineer from our state designed this piece of work. Great spot to advertise a auto body shop.
Count me in. I have left a message on your voicemail with contact info. Any flyers you have would be great to pass along if possible. I will spread the word and look foward in helping next month.
Montague Plains WMA is a very interesting area biologically. There are many rare plant species there that are protected by the state. I am sure there are animals as well but I just know the plants. It is very unfortunate that illegal dumping goes on there although I think it is not as bad as 15 years ago. I have definitely noticed the clean up efforts. It is a big area and probably very difficult for the state to patrol for illegal dumping.
People who do it are probably lazy or do not have the $ to pay for disposal of mattresses, tvs, etc. which require fees at the town transfer station. Maybe there is a way to waive fees for people with low incomes.
I hope to help with this year's clean up efforts. Maybe see you there
