Per pupil spending. I hear about choicing out and less students? I would think less students equal less money. Looking at the numbers Joelandry posted it seems outr town may be a little top heavy in terms of finances.

"Level 4". Again. I would think if the money is there so are the resources. So there is a missing link somewhere. I wonder if it may be a quality issue. And if so how do we get the reputation of cranking out better quality?

Most likely "Organic". That seems to be the trend these days. I believe they are ALL organic with no known chemicals in their crops.

Grant for Asst to the Sup’t

junkman -

Today's Recorder article and the Nov 1 deadline concern two different (though related) things. The article talked about the upcoming district review, which Sup't Ladd has asked be held this September. The district review was going to happen anyway because of the district's status as a "level 4" (i.e. in trouble) district, but Ladd asked that it be held sooner rather than later and DESE agreed.

Ladd also asked that a fifth item be added to the normal four-item agenda, having to do with the district's level of per-pupil spending (which is higher than the state average, and has been used by state officials to argue that the district has plenty of money). None of the other four items involve financing, although arguably financing is the biggest problem facing the district (go figure ;-).

That fifth item ties in with Nov 1, which is the deadline set by our state reps for DESE to study the district's finances and make recommendations about how it can live within its means. Ladd sees the district review as fitting right into that, which is why he insisted that his item be added. . ..

Do you own a Kindle?

I do and i have some free time to show it to you if you don't hear back from anyone you actually already know. I could meet you at 2nd St bakery or round here cafe. I've had the kindle for over a year now so i have some opinions, if you're interested.

mark2 I think its the Jhang or Jang farm. The main farm house is off of 63. I did the plumb and heating back around 2003 or so for the house that the workers live in. Paul Tolan built it, he has since past away. He was a stand up guy in my book

Soapbox Build Party on MCTV

"Mis-inception", the seeds of nightmare...

IMHO (well, not always "H"), the Department of Education (now DESE) is content to play the role of "The Great and Powerful OZ".
What you see in the Recorder and in the work of the fiscal collaboration between the GMRSD and the Towns of Gill and Montague (also discussed last night but might not make it into the Recorder because it reflects our growing competence as a district which seems to undermine the Recorder's mission statement...) is, in effect, Toto pulling back the curtain.
Historically, when the Department issues its booming edicts with lights flashing and thunder cracking, districts don't even bother to ask "how high?", they just jump! And jump and jump and jump some more until, all too often, they find that they've jumped into a hot air balloon which is now adrift somewhere over Iowa. Not that there's anything wrong with Iowa, but when you're supposed to be in Massachusetts, it's a problem.
So the GMRSD is trying to look past the smoke and mirrors to the substance of what the DESE is saying; engage that message thoughtfully and methodically; respond rationally and concretely; and then insist on a dialog.

Grant for Asst to the Sup’t

junkman Thank you MikeL.

Todays Greenfield Recorder has a front page article in regard to GM Schools getting the state involved. I haven't had time to read it yet but it seems that possibly the state may get involved (now) because of underperforming issues. I am not very clear on this.

It was posted that November 1st is the date the state is to get involved? IMHO it seems the school issue is a nightmare....
